Letsvpn is cheap and really consistant, but I hate toggling the vpn on and off when I need to use a Chinese app that doesn't work if a vpn is in use. Astrill is a lot more expensive, but it's consistent and it offers split tunneling so you don't have to turn it on ...
The current consensus for working VPNs seems to be Astrill VPN, Mullvad VPN, and LetsVPN. ExpressVPN, NordVPN, PrivateInternetAccess (PIA), and Surfshark WILL NOT RELIABLY WORK (if at all) in China, regardless of what their advertising or support tells you. Outside of commercially-available VPNs, there are many V2ray and Shadowsocks providers.

2022年8月20日 · NORDVPN not working in China. I moved to China and I subscribed with NordVPN for two years because the customer service told me it would work there. Well, it doesn't. It never worked on Windows devices, and two weeks ago it stopped work on all other devices. DON'T SUBSCRIBE TO NORDVPN IF YOU MOVE TO CHINA.

2023年10月21日 · Not sure about Guangzhou specifically, but when I was in China NordVPN did not work at all. None of the VPN protocols they provided works. I used LetsVPN during my stay in China, but I'm sure their lowest plan goes at 7 days for $2.98. Reach out to NORDVPN support and tell them what city your going to.
