Collecting certain business details is required by law as part of a process called Know Your Customer (KYC). If anything’s incorrect, your account permissions could be limited, and you may not be able to receive payouts.
KYC requirements. KYC is a regulatory requirement to help protect our community from fraud and to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing. Nearly every large company licensed to issue payments to individuals has to comply with KYC—in other words, we’re required to know who’s accessing the Airbnb account, and who’s getting paid.
Form 1099-K reports gross payment transactions processed on your behalf by Airbnb. As a Third Party Settlement Organization (TPSO), Airbnb is required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and state tax authorities to issue Form 1099-K to US citizen or US tax resident Hosts who meet 1099-K reporting thresholds.
Your billing statement can be uploaded as a PDF or photo file. If you have a paper statement, take a photo of the first page that has your name and account information. If your statement is in digital form, take a screenshot, including the same information.

Airbnb uses the simplified 'substitute' version of an IRS Form W-8BEN to verify the foreign tax status of non-US individuals who host and do not have any US listings. Non-US individuals who host and have US listings generally will provide Form W-8ECI. US tax residents should provide Form W-9 regardless of where their listings are located.
