For a nice introduction to the park, walk part of the well defined, and mostly level Canyon Rim Trail. Start from the Visitor Center/Mather Point, or from any viewpoint in the village. West of the village, the Canyon Rim Trail continues alongside Hermit Road, a 7 mile scenic road with 9 exceptional overlooks. Details.
3 天前 · The Grand Canyon of the Colorado River is a mile-deep canyon (1.6 km) that bisects the park. Even though the average distance across the canyon is only 10 miles/ 16 km, it takes 5 hours to drive the 215 miles / 346 km between the park's South Rim Village and the North Rim Village.

Lodging Inside the park. South Rim lodging is available all year, and books up well in advance, especially during spring break, summer months, and fall weekends. Reservations are recommended. Most lodges in Grand Canyon Village are within walking distance of the canyon rim.
