An effective way to get low rates on domestic flights in Japan is to purchase as early in advance as possible. Particularly large discounts are offered when booked at least a month in advance. Many airlines also offer discounts on bookings made seven, three or one day ahead of the travel date.

Nankai Railway connects Namba to Kansai Airport, Wakayama and Mount Koya (Koyasan). Hankyu Railway connects Osaka-Umeda Station with northern Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto. Kintetsu Railway connects Osaka with many destinations in the southern Kansai Region, including Nara, Kyoto, Asuka, Yoshino, Ise and Nagoya.
By Nankai and Hankyu railways. Take a Nankai express train from Kansai Airport to Tengachaya Station (40 minutes, 970 yen), and then the Sakaisuji Subway Line and Hankyu Kyoto Line to central Kyoto (about 60 minutes, 700 yen, one transfer of trains along the way, typically at Awaji, Ibarakishi or Takatsuki Station).
The regular one way fare from Shin-Osaka to Himeji is around 3500 yen. The Japan Rail Pass is valid on Sakura, Hikari and Kodama trains, but not on Nozomi trains. Meanwhile, the JR Kansai Wide Area Pass and several other regional rail passes by JR West are valid on all trains.
Seishun 18 Kippu. The Seishun Juhachi Kippu (青春18きっぷ, meaning something like "Youthful 18 Ticket") is a seasonally available railway ticket, which gives you five days of unlimited, nationwide travel on local and rapid JR (Japan Railways) trains for only 12,050 yen, or 2,410 yen per day!
