2022年4月25日 · Another great experience with Propofol here. I was so worried to be put to sleep against my will, but those worries were completely unnecessary. The doctor gave me the Propofol, I felt a pleasant tingling. I counted to 10, told the doctor that I am still awake. The doctor said “Oh”, and that’s the last thing I remember.

But if you are coming up on your first colonoscopy and especially if you, like me, are afraid of propofol, this story might help you. Low fiber diet, last food at 9:00 PM two days before the procedure.
2022年7月13日 · As far as dizziness, you're going to be recovering in a bed for a bit after the procedure. Propofol is EXTREMELY fast on/off, so although you'll be a bit lightheaded from not eating, you won't be extremely dizzy. Depending on the endoscopy suite they may even give you some juice / cookies afterward. 1.
2022年4月4日 · Propofol wake ups don't really have any significant disadvantages I can think of, other than trying to work out the dosing/timing. One way you could make yourself more comfortable with a propofol wake up is if you use a BIS or whatever EEG you have available, because the changes in the EEG will happen slightly before the patient starts bucking or whatever, and you'll have time to respond.
2021年12月31日 · I much prefer propofol, no benzo. The last time I had an endoscopy, they didn’t use propofol and instead used conscious sedation (versed + Demerol). Completely average doses, not unusually high or anything. I slept for 19 hours when I came home and then was dopey/sleepy the entire next day.

I've actually experienced both multiple times and 100% prefer propofol. I told my GI I will be insisting on it for my next scope (hospital where I am in Canada really pushes twilight sedation - I've tried it 3 times and felt/remembered the entire procedure every time, and believe me, it was not pleasant).
2023年10月18日 · Propofol causes strange memory loss for a few hours. The night after my afternoon colonoscopy, I literally forgot how to flush the toilet. Like, I knew that I had previously known how, and I was certain that I’d know again, but I could not remember that I needed to move my arm down so my finger could push the lever.
Propofol panic attack. Hello everyone. I (22f) had a procedure yesterday to insert setons for two fistulas and my surgeon used propofol to put me to sleep. Before the procedure, I warned him and the anesthesiologist and nurse that I’ve had terrible shivering and anxiety after waking up both times they have used propofol on me before.

Never has been because it doesn't make one sleep. There is a difference between being anesthetized and sleeping. But I do understand his desperation for sleep.
