The website created by the Japanese government's Ministry of the Environment explains the characteristics of the two routes. Both are attractive. The guided ground walkway route may also be easier to find information on photo spots for the day.

We have 2 nights in Nagano in early January, and I'm looking for a little help or feedback on the plans to date. If you started at The River Cafe, coming by taxi, instead of back on the Malecon, would save you quite a few steps (literally, both distance and staircases).

To access the Malecon stairs, you can tell them to drop you at Rodriguez and Morelos Then you would walk a short distance west to the Malecon, and take a left on the Malecon.
