I'll be visiting Port Douglas next month and am keen to visit the Daintree Discovery Centre, however I was hoping to avoid hiring a car. Is there any other transport to the centre from PD, be it shuttle bus or organised tours?

Options are Nikko or Kaga-Onsen with the hope of catching fall colours, quality onsen/ryokan, culture and food (last is most important!). Nikko getting Kinugawa Koen/Onsen ryokans. Heard Nikko very crowded so thinking of Kaga-Onsen.
