Since June 2 is Sunday, if your primary purpose is bloom, drive from Shirakawa Suigen in Minamiaso-mura (Aso Yoshida Line) instead of Aso Panorama Line from JR Aso station.

I’ll have 2 mornings from around 7-9am free to explore on my own and would like to visit temples in the area (on my list - Kodai-ji Temple, Yasaka shrine, Chion temple, Shore-in temple).

And please note that Squeaky Beach doesn't squeak if the sand is wet, so plan your time there accordingly (it might be best to go in the afternoon because it's often damp in the morning).
