On my first day I won't be arriving until late afternoon so was just going to spend the afternoon looking around the town. Day 2 and 3 I am looking for suggestions for the best things to do.

Any areas that are particularly spectacular in winter around February / March ? Interested in traditional architecture, culture, hot springs in nature outside (not inside buildings).

There is also a Toyoko Inn (budget priced hotel chain with small rooms) adjacent to Shinagawa Station, but it's popular, so it may be difficult to get a reservation there. Be sure to confirm on google maps that the hotel you choose is within walking distance of the Japan Rail Shinagawa Station.

2024年8月4日 · We came across a 16-day cruise with Heritage that pretty much circumnavigates Japan, and includes visits to a number of islands. It would complement our first trip nicely. However, I have heard mixed things about Heritage, albeit with regard to their cruises out of New Zealand.
