There is a reason these sights are popular and crowded—it is because they are worth seeing. I cannot stress how easy it is to wake early in Japan.

Having already been to more southern parts of Japan before, I opted to do Nikko and Sendai (as a jumping off place more than as a destination in its own right) in addition to Tokyo for this trip with my older teen daughter.
