Alternative is Skyliner to Ueno and transfer to a local JR train (a bit more complicated) or one of the local trains into the city (much slower) and then transferring somewhere like Shinagawa.

It takes 4 hours from Hiroshima to Tokyo even by the fastest Nozomi Shinkansen train, 800km apart. Besides, you may drop by Himeji Castle for a few hours while travelling enroute to Osaka.

We are in Tokyo for 4 nights before going on a cruise so we only need local travel. Don’t want to stay in Shibuya or Shinjuku but will certainly go have a look.
