Looks like you can get a rental for $50-60 - probably better if you search for discounts or have a corporate rate (my corporate rate would be $40 with Enterprise). I believe it is $10 to park at the Palace, and you may end up having to pay to park back downtown depending where you pick up the car.

The Pistons play at the Little Caesar's Arena which is on the edge of downtown. Any downtown hotel will be within a mile or so of the Arena.
Look for hotels in Auburn Hills or Rochester. Hopefully, you will have a car when you are here. If not, see if any of the hotels will shuttle you over to the game. Bad thing about Detroit --its not a walking town and the public transportation is pretty bad when compared to other large cities.
