概要. 為達至國際水平及減低結算風險，香港銀行同業結算有限公司 ( “結算公司” )於1996年12月9日推出港元即時支付結算系統 ( 亦名“結算所自動轉帳系統”)。 此即時支付結算系統已與本地及國際系統聯網，方便進行即時貨銀兩訖及外匯交易同步交收結算。 所有香港的持牌銀行須直接在香港金融管理局 (“金管局”)開設港元結算戶口。 自2000年6月起，有限制牌照銀行如有商業上的需要，也可直接在金管局開設結算戶口。 除非銀行為支付指令作特別的安排，否則當結算戶口有足夠結餘，支付指令便會立即執行。 假如銀行的結算戶口結餘不足，又或沒有足夠政府債券作為即日回購的抵押品，發出的支付指令便須在系統內依次輪候。 銀行可運用輪候機制取消或調換支付指令的輪候次序。
