2023年11月8日 · （資料圖片） 【明報專訊】溫哥華首位華裔市長沈觀健就職一年，他昨日在接受本報採訪時認為「競選承諾已完成接近一半」。 他坦言，溫市住房問題是就職以來最大挑戰，市府已經在簡化建屋審批流程方面取得很大進展。 沈觀健說，不願用「做得好或不好」來評價自己過去一年的工作，因為過於主觀；他只是團隊中的一小部分，他更願意讓公眾來評判。 不過他強調，在任期第一年內，他和團隊已經兌現94項競選承諾中的40項；承諾4年實現的事情目前已經完成接近一半。 除了住房負擔問題，沈觀健說，華埠和市中心東端以及周邊社區治安，以及如何提振商業活力亦是施政的考驗。 針對愈來愈多的人因為高房價和高房租搬離溫哥華，沈觀健表示，很多因素無法控制，比如房地產市場、銀行利率和移民。
2022年10月17日 · 本報訊. 15日是加拿大卑詩省的市政選舉投票日，51歲的香港移民二代沈觀健（Ken Sim）擊敗現任市長斯圖爾特，當選新一屆溫哥華市長，成為溫哥華有史以來首位華裔市長。 沈觀健被視為親北京，斯圖爾特則與台灣友好，斯圖爾特落馬後，當地台灣移民擔心溫哥華和高雄結為友誼城市的計劃胎死腹中。 卑詩省15日舉行地方選舉，分別改選市長、市議員與教育局委員等職位。 根據截至午夜的開票情況，沈觀健贏得逾48%選票，確定勝選。 排於次席、謀求連任的斯圖爾特（Kennedy Stewart），得票率約32%，已承認敗選。 當得知沈觀健大比數擊敗斯圖爾特後，支持者高呼「ABC！ ABC！ 」ABC指沈觀健領導的新政黨優化城市黨（A Better City）。 「提升溫哥華競爭吸引力」
