It was at this time on 26 January, 1938 Australia celebrated the 150th anniversary of the arrival first fleet. Uncle Boydie's grandfather William Cooper led what's described as the first Aboriginal civil rights protest in Australian history. Sydney was at a standstill as a re-enactment took place.
1938: Day of Mourning held by the Aborigines League (est 1932) and the Aborigines Progressive Association (1937). It is the first major protest by Indigenous people. The manifesto “Aborigines Claim Citizen Rights” and the newspaper “Abo Call” are published.
