2023年1月1日 · KEY POINTS. Travellers from China will need to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test before boarding a flight to Australia. The temporary measures will come into force from 5 January. People coming from Hong Kong and Macau will be included in the mandatory testing.

Even though the boat was small, it was carrying 438 mainly Hazara asylum seekers from Afghanistan.
