政府已宣佈由 2021 年 1 月 31 日起，不再承認BNO作為市民的旅遊證件或身分證明文件，市民必須以香港特區護照或香港永久性居民身份證，以作出入境證明文件。 BNO 簽證「 5 + 1 」移民. 透過新的 BNO 簽證方案 ，亦即 「5+1 計劃」 ，申請時只需擁有 BNO 資格，毋須出示有效 BNO 護照。 換言之，如你的 BNO 護照遺失或過期，也毋須急於補領。 「 5+1 計劃」指BNO 持有人及其受養人可獲 5 年居英許可，定居滿 5 年後則可申請入籍，成為英國公民。 英府公布最新移民細節，重點如下： 於 2021 年 1 月 31 日起開放予擁有BNO身份人士申請，無須持有效 BNO 護照，可憑特區護照申請. 5 年簽證費為 250 英鎊，30 個月簽證費為 180 英鎊.
