Well, after testing 2 of these radios for several weeks, here is my review. The Quansheng UV-K5 has been around for awhile, but this review is of its recent variant, the UV-K5 (8). Quansheng’s model designations can be confusing. There are actually 3 Quansheng models that are essentially equivalent—the UV-K5 (8), the UV-K6, and the UV-K5 (99).

Its late construction (1910-1912) might have had something to do with that. As already noted by timz, the compensated grade on the west slope was 0.8%.

Generally upgrading a GP7 to a "GP7u" would include conversion of the 16-567 B engine to a "BC" or "C", replacing the old barrel control stand with a AAR roller switch type, replacing the air-operated reverser and power contactors with the new magnetic version.
