   開台初期,麗的映聲以有線廣播黑白電視,用戶需支付安裝費、租機費和服務月費,並須繳付政府牌照費用,才能觀看到電視節目。 因此於五、六十年代,在家收看電視節目是富貴人家才有的娛樂。 1967年無綫電視正式啟播,香港人迎來了無線和彩色電視廣播,即是用戶只要擁有彩色電視機,不需要繳交安裝費及服務月費,便可收看彩色製作的電視節目和電影,彩色電視機亦順勢進軍香港市場。 六、七十年代的香港經濟起飛,市民購買力增加,很多人願意花錢在娛樂消閒方面。 但是,售價二千至四千多元的彩色電視機對於當時的普羅大眾而言仍屬昂貴,因此市面曾出現電視機租用服務。 為改善電視畫面的質素,市民也流行使用俗稱「魚骨天線」的電視訊號接收器,當年魚骨形天線佈滿大廈公共天台,成為一代香港人非常熟悉的畫面。
