Mount Yoshino (吉野山, Yoshinoyama) in Yoshino Town, Nara Prefecture, is Japan's most famous cherry blossom spot. It features over 30,000 cherry trees planted around the slopes which visitors can admire as they walk along the roads that lead up the mountain.
The Miho Museum stands deep in the forested hill west of central Koka and can be visited in a side trip from Kyoto. It was designed by the renowned architect, I. M. Pei, and is named after Koyama Mihoko, one of the richest women in Japan and the founder of the museum.

A rental carcan be convenient for exploring the area. Rental car outlets are available at stations along the Yamagata Shinkansen such as Murayama, Shinjo and Yamagata stations, as well as at Yamagata Airport. Parking is available at parking lots a 5-10 minute walk outside the town center. Many ryokan will pick up their guests from the parking lot.
There are two busround trips per day between Yamagata Airport and Ginzan Onsen (75 minutes, 1500 yen one way) that require no prior reservations.
Chionji Temple (智恩寺) is a temple at the southern entrance of the Amanohashidate Sandbar. Part of the Rinzai School of Japanese Zen Buddhism, the temple houses one of Japan's "Three Important Statues of Monju Bosatsu", the Buddhist god of wisdom and intellect.
Isuien (依水園) is an attractive Japanese garden with a variety of features, such as the use of Todaiji Temple 's Nandaimon Gate and Mount Wakakusayama as "borrowed scenery". Isuien means "garden founded on water", and the garden's name is derived from the fact that its ponds are fed by the small adjacent Yoshikigawa River.
