Kamei Chicken is a chicken breed developed by the Kadoorie Agricultural Research Centre of the University of Hong Kong. In the 1990s, Professor Daniel Chan Kwong On, the director of the centre, used more than a dozen nearly extinct South China chicken breeds to select excellent breeds to hybridize and become today's Kamei chicken.
Special breeds of pigs and chickens were developed which could cope with the local conditions. On 20 January 1995, the Legislative Council passed an ordinance that established the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden Corporation.

The Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Garden is located in the valley along Lam Kam Road between Tai Po and Yuen Long and is most easily accessible by way of bus route 64K. Opening hours are 9.30am to 5pm daily and entry fees are HK$40 (adults) and HK$20 (children aged 5-11).
