   In Hong Kong, historical literature suggested that the terms 'typhoon' and 'hurricane' had been used interchangeably. For example, in the Local Storm Signal Code published by the Observatory in 1950 (Figure 2), the No. 10 Signal was known as the 'Typhoon' signal, meaning hurricane-force or typhoon winds of 64 knots (118 km/h) or above.
