4 天前 · The route I am following is one of several pilgrimage trails spread across the Kii Peninsula prefectures of Wakayama, Nara, and Mie, collectively known as the Kumano Kodo (old roads to Kumano). For over one thousand years, the trails have hosted pilgrims who used the rugged terrain for purification on their way to the three grand shrines of Kumano.
