Just wondering, just preliminary planning, looking to spend 3.5 days in Kyoto the taking the train to Tokyo. Not planning on "day trips" from Kyoto, just concentrate on Kyoto proper. If you had a choice would you stay in the Gion area or Kyoto Station area?

I'd assumed I was looking too far in advance BUT could it be I'm looking too late & they're sold out? (We are going to Tokyo pre cruise so dates aren't really flexible.
