Having already been to more southern parts of Japan before, I opted to do Nikko and Sendai (as a jumping off place more than as a destination in its own right) in addition to Tokyo for this trip with my older teen daughter.

We want to experience some of Japan's cities but also enjoy smaller, quieter towns in the countryside. Below is a draft of our 3-week itinerary planned for either mid April or mid May 2025.

Shinjuku is along Shinjuku-dori (East exit of Shinjuku Station) and parts of the area between Yasukuni -dori and Koshu Kaido (Rt. 20) from 12:00 to 18:00 in summer (17:00 in winter) on Sundays and Holidays. Ginza is Saturdays, Sundays and Holiday. April to September 12:00-18:00.
4 天前 · In order to take this train, we zeroed onto the following options (after reading expert advice on various trip advisor forums) Option 1. Shinjuku to Omiya to Kanazawa. Option 2. Shinjuku to Tokyo station to Kanazawa. Issues. We would be travelling with 2 pieces of luggage. Less than the 160 cm threshold.
