These breastfeeding rates fall short of the targets recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) [ 3, 4 ].

2016年6月18日 · A recent systematic review and meta-analysis revealed that breastfeeding initiation after the first hour of birth doubles the risk of neonatal mortality [ 5 ]. In specific countries, initiating within 1 h reduced deaths by 19 % in Nepal [ 6] and 22 % in Ghana [ 7 ].
Early or timely initiation of breastfeeding is crucial in preventing newborn deaths and influences childhood nutrition however remains low in South Asia and the factors and barriers warrant greater consideration for improved action.
