2022年12月2日 · Djibouti, December 2nd, 2022 — On Friday, the Operation Commander (OPCDR) of the European Union Naval Force Operation ATALANTA, Vice Admiral (VADM) José María Nuñez Torrente chaired the Force Headquarters (FHQ) Change of Command ceremony held on board of ATALANTA’s flagship, ESPS Santa María.

With over 10 years of ongoing counter-piracy operations in the Western Indian Ocean, the free-flow of international maritime trade has much improved, but it remains vital that this effort continues. Working with other maritime security partners becomes vital to continue this success.
By concentrating forces, EU NAVFOR can provide influence, deterrence and insight into legitimate activities, and thereby co-ordinate better future activities to deter piracy and armed robbery at sea, and thus reassure legitimate seafarers.

FFG NIKIFOROS FOKAS is equipped with extensive self defense measures and has 1 helicopter at its disposal.
