Visitors to Tai Kwun can get a glimpse of heritage stories from the late 19 th century in Hong Kong through the painstakingly restored heritage buildings and large courtyards, which can be visited independently or with one of the organised tours.
Surrounded by Hollywood Road, Arbuthnot Road, Chancery Lane and Old Bailey Street, the compound underwent a heritage revitalisation and reopened to the public on 29 May 2018 [1] as "Tai Kwun" ( Chinese : 大館 ), a centre for heritage and arts.
Tai Kwun immerses visitors in the rich heritage of the historic Central Police Station compound. More than 180 years of the site’s multiple histories will unfold through guided tours, heritage exhibitions, and a range of learning and participatory programmes.
大館. 位於荷李活道的前中區警署建築群屬於後維多利亞式風格建築，建築群包括前中區警署、前中央裁判司署及域多利監獄，合組成為香港早期的司法中心。
大館 （英語： Tai Kwun ），即 舊中區警署 （前稱 中央警署 ；英語： Central Police Station ， 縮寫 ： CPS ），位於 香港 中環 荷李活道 ，曾經是 香港警察總部 及 中區警署 。 中區警署現時已經遷至 上環 中港道 中區警區總部 毗連，原址連同 前域多利監獄 、 前中央裁判司署 的建築群现在是 香港法定古蹟 。 2018年5月29日起正式對外開放，免費入場参观。 [1] 歷史. 舊中區警署建於1864年，是三層高 古典式 建築。 1905年，加建一層。 1920年，另一座四層高的大樓落成。 1925年，另一所兩層高的軍械倉庫於西北端建成。 [2] 2005年12月20日，警隊舉行告別儀式，正式將中區警署交回政府 [3] 。
