以下我用了一個表格把條件句分成四個類型，這可以幫助你更容易理解 if 條件句的基礎用法，也讓你更清楚地知道接下來講解的架構。不過，這並不代表 if 條件句只有這四種樣態喔，看下去你就知道啦～ 如你所見，條件句有不同的功能，中文使用的「如果」，在英文中會用不同的型態來表示事實、預測未來和表示假設等，而這樣的差異會以不同的動詞型態表現出來，所以以下我們會將此有系統地分成四種情形來做解釋喔～
第 1 型條件句會用來描述未來可能發生的情況。這個在生活中應該還滿常使用的，像是辦戶外活動就要想如果下雨了要怎麼辦啊、出國生病了怎麼辦啊、車子拋錨怎麼辦啊等等這種未來有可能發生的情況，這種情形就會使用這型的條件句喔！ 你應該有觀察到，雖然兩個子句都在描述未來，但 if 子句會用現在簡單式而非未來式喔～ 第 1 型條件句的主要子句通常會使用 will，但也是可以用 can、may 或 shall 來表達 此外，你也可能會遇到 if 子句中的動詞前面加上 should 的用法，這個 should 跟我們平常用的「應該」沒有關係喔，使用 should 是讓人覺得事情會發生的機率比較低一點，所以中文通常會翻譯成「萬一…/要是…」，而此用法較為正式，比較會出現在一些標語或正式文件中。
第 2 型條件句會用來描述與現在事實相反的情況，或是未來可能性極低的情況。這類就像是做白日夢、設身處地時會用到的句子喔～ 你可以發現這時候句子會「借用過去式」的樣子來表達與現在事實相反的情形，但是這並不表示事情發生在過去喔！ 這一型條件句的主要子句通常會用 would，但也可以用 could、might 或 should ～ P.S. 你應該有發現 if 子句中的 be 動詞在假設語氣中，不管主詞是單數還是複數，遇到 be 動詞時都會使用 were 為主， 單數主詞搭配 was 會是比較口語的用法～
這一型的條件句在表達與過去事實相反的狀況。像是指一些後悔的事，相信大家都講過「早知道/當初…就…」這類的話吧，就是這種感覺啦 😂。 這一型的條件句會「借用過去完成式」的樣子來表達與過去式事實相反的狀況，但這跟時態也是無關的喔～ 太好哩！你看完了四種類型的 if 條件句，相信你已經掌握了基本概念，接下來就看看四個相關的補充吧～

- 在無條件下，[ If + 現在簡單, 現在簡單 ]用於談論習慣、事實、真相，無法爭辯的事實。也就是談論一件無論過去、現在，還是未來，都會這樣的事。
- 第一條件，[ If + 現在簡單, will + 不定式動詞 ]表示在未來可能發生的情況。我們用它來談論將來可能發生的事情（是真實的），並且很有可能發生！
- 第二條件，[ If + 過去簡單, would + 不定式動詞 ]表示是想像現在當下的情況，不是真實的。用它來談論不可能的現狀和不大可能發生的未來狀況（非真實的）。
- 第三條件，[ If + 過去完成式, would have + 過去分詞 ]表示過去非事實的情況，只是想像與過去發生相反的情況。也就是談論一件過去根本沒發生的事，但是假設如果發生了，我會怎麼做。
