Softball will not return in 2024. It was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but on 24 March 2020, the Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of this pandemic, the games were played behind closed doors.

2020年7月17日 · The Olympic softball event will commence on Wednesday 21 July 2021, at Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium, with the Gold Medal Game scheduled for 27 July at Yokohama Baseball Stadium. The six qualified teams -- Australia, Canada, Italy, Japan, Mexico and USA -- will play each other during the Opening Round from 21-26 July.
