Educated at the UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA (BA), QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY (MA) and the UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO (U of T) (PhD), Ramsay Cook taught history first at U of T and later at YORK UNIVERSITY until his retirement in 1996.

He joined the British army in 1788 and saw service in both Spain and France 1812-14. After fighting at the Battle of Waterloo 1815, he began a career in administration.
