The Chiune Sugihara Memorial Hall (杉原千畝記念館, Sugihara Chiune Kinenkan) commemorates the story of Sugihara Chiune (1900-1986), a Japanese diplomat who saved the lives of hundreds of Jews during the Holocaust by granting them visas to escape Europe. The museum is located in Sugihara's home town Yaotsu, Gifu Prefecture, in a rural area.
Magome (馬籠) is a former post town in the Kiso Valley, which served travelers of the Nakasendo, a major route that connected Tokyo with Kyoto during the feudal ages. The town has been beautifully restored with a broad stone walkway lined with wooden buildings and carefully tended foliage.

The Nebuta Matsuri is one of the three great festivals of the Tohoku Region (Tohoku Sandai Matsuri) alongside Akita 's Kanto Matsuri and Sendai 's Tanabata. Local teams build the festival's two dozen floats, which are constructed of painted washi paper over a wire frame and take an entire year to design and construct.
