Owakudani is one of most famous viewpoints in Hakone, where you can observe the intense volcanic activity from up close. It is said that this place came to be thanks to a phreatic eruption and pyroclastic flow that occurred almost 3000 years ago.
A beautiful cedar avenue that stretches for 500m from Motohakone to Onshi-Hakone Park. The trees were supposedly planted in 1618 during the Edo period (1603-1868) and their towering forms have protected those traveling Hakone’s mountain roads from the sunlight and wind ever since. Now, 400 trees 400 years in age remain on the avenue.
This museum, which opened in 1952, is the oldest of its kind in Hakone. The main exhibition room displays collections of Japanese earthenware and ceramics from the BC period to the Edo Period (1603 - 1868). Visitors can enjoy both the artworks and the natural surroundings, as the Hakone mountains can be viewed from the large windows.
