12 years ago. Save. I found prices to be the same unless they are on promotion discount due to discontinued style or last season's....or in duty free... Head Porter are more expensive. Tokyo has more shops carrying porter brand, but hokkaido 's shops had more stock available.
Also, Muji has a much bigger selection of various design goods in Japan, then their shops overseas. The best Muji shops to visit is the mega shop at Yurakucho or the shop in Roppongi Midtown. Many Japanese are crazy for bags. There is a local brand called Porter which is a product of the Yoshida Bag company.

You need to show your passport with a temporary visitor stamp on it to get tax-free. A photocopy doesn't work. As mentioned a foreigner needs to carry a passport or a resident card at all times.
