Marshall D. Teach, more commonly known as Blackbeard, is one of the main antagonists of the One Piece franchise. He was once a member of Whitebeard 's pirate crew before betraying him by killing a crew mate and stealing the Yami Yami no Mi.
After eating the Yami Yami no Mi at long last, Teach adopted the name "Blackbeard" and soon formed the Blackbeard Pirates, which composed of Laffitte, a former policeman from the West Blue and the crew's navigator, Van Augur the sniper, Jesus Burgess the helmsman, Doc Q the doctor and Stronger, Doc Q's horse.
Blackbeard was formerly a member of the Whitebeard Pirates second division led by Portgas D. Ace. Shanks also warned Whitebeard that Blackbeard was becoming stronger than him and had only joined his crew to stay hidden behind the massive shadow of the Whitebeard name, until he became strong enough to make his move.
