2016年3月17日 · For a closed book exam, definitely not -- it's understandable that you can't cite a work that isn't in front of you. For an open book exam, it would depend on your subject area: I teach biology, and I routinely overlook grammatical, spelling and minor mathematical errors as long as it's clear the student understands the biology they're describing.

2013年8月8日 · 11. Open book exams are actually very easy to design (at least I think so, and I favor them in my own teaching): just design it the same way you would design regular exercises. The goal is to evaluate the students’ understanding and skills, i.e. how they analyze and solve problems, rather than the facts they have memorized.

In the case of a statistics class where "it is important to understand rather than know," and, "knowing statistical formulas won't help if you haven't understood how to apply them," you could simply compile a list of formulae from the course textbook and put them on the last page of the exam.

2020年6月17日 · Now due to Covid-19, this exam was an online open-book exam, I had interpreted the open book exam to mean that we could have our notes and our lecture slides with us. The weeks leading to the exam, I had searched up practice questions online and had written and solved them out on paper to have with me during the exam just in case a similar question came up.
One could do any of the following, as well as some things in between: no resources, open book but nothing else, open book and personal notes and homeworks, open notes only, open book+notes+internet. The instructor can also choose to force the student to complete the exam in one sitting or allow students to leave and return. Flexible scheduling - The exam does not have to happen at a specific time, but may be accessible over a time period, perhaps 24 hours or more. The instructor can still enforce time limits and so on.
