In this case, the inquirer takes for granted that the forgiver will excuse him anyway or doesn't really care about being forgiven.

If the person you are writing to has given you understanding and help then writing this at the end of the letter is perfectly acceptable (I would omit "I", beginning with "Thank you ...".) If they haven't it is a bit strange, to say the least.

In your situation, you are thanking your members in advance for the understanding or cooperation you hope they will show. Nevertheless, both versions are fine.
