The Hon Geoffrey Ma is the former Chief Justice of Hong Kong, having retired from that position in January 2021. He accepts appointments as an arbitrator and a mediator. Prior to joining the Hong Kong Judiciary, he was in private practice as a barrister at Temple Chambers.
Geoffrey Ma Tao-li GBM KC SC (Chinese: 馬道立; born 11 January 1956) is a retired Hong Kong judge who served as the 2nd Chief Justice of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal—the court of last resort (or supreme court) in Hong Kong.
Dr. the Hon. Geoffrey Ma was Chief Justice of Hong Kong from 2010-2021. He studied law and graduated with an LLB from Birmingham University. He was called to the English Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1978, the Hong Kong Bar in 1980, the Bar of the State of Victoria in Australia in 1983 and the Bar of Singapore in 1990.

2021年4月26日 · The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has appointed former Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal of the Hong Kong SAR Judiciary, Dr. the Honourable Geoffrey Ma Tao-li, GBM QC SC, as Honorary Professor of Law with effect from 1 April 2021.
The Honourable Mr Geoffrey MA Tao-li, GBM. Former Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal (2010-2021) Chief Justice Ma was appointed Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal on 1 September 2010. Chief Justice Ma was born in Hong Kong in 1956.
Geoffrey Ma Tao-li (LLB Law, 1997; LL.D, 2011) has recently been appointed as Honorary Chair and Professor in the Birmingham Law School. He joins the University as a senior member of its distinguished academic community in recognition of his outstanding contribution to public life.
