成員公開次序為 潤娥 、 蒂芬妮 、 俞利 、 孝淵 、 秀英 、 徐玄 、 太妍 、 潔西卡 和 珊妮，並由太妍擔任隊長。 7月16日，團體影像公開後，官方網站發佈成員的個人資料。 7月18日，少女時代在 Mnet 《M! Countdown》非正式舞台，以出道歌〈閃亮新世界〉首次亮相。 從7月27日起於 Mnet 播出的真人秀的節目《少女上學去》公開出道過程。 8月2日發佈出道歌〈閃亮新世界〉。 8月5日在 SBS 《人氣歌謠》展開宣傳活動。 出道歌在8月27日至9月2日為期一週的聚合放送數目共247次而得到一位，在 Naver 歌手搜索榜第一引起關注。 在10月11日的Mnet《M! Countdown》獲得首個一位。

Girls’ Generation / SNSD (소녀시대) consists of Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona and Seohyun. Former member Jessica left the group on September 30th, 2014. Tiffany, Sooyoung and Seohyun left S.M. Entertainment on October 9th, 2017 but they have remained in the group.
