Tai O (Chinese: 大澳; Jyutping: daai6 ou3; Cantonese Yale: Daaih’Ou) is a fishing town, partly located on an island of the same name, on the western side of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. The village name means large inlet, referring to outlet for the waterways (Tai O Creek and Tai O River) merges as it moves through Tai O.

The iconic image of Tai O, and what gives it its nickname, the “Venice of Hong Kong”, is that the original village was built on stilts, with many of its structures reaching out over the water.
The Tai O Fishing Village on west Lantau Island is famous for its traditional Chinese stilt-house community on the water and is considered as “Venice of the Orient”.
