- Contract 704 is the largest project for the West Island Line which comprises of two underground cavern stations at Sai Ying Pun and Hong Kong University with associated 2 km running tunnels and 3km construction & pedestrian adits constructed by drill and blast, 100m soft tunneling by ground freezing method, nine entrance shafts with depth up to 80m by mechanical means.

Gammon Construction and Gammon-Nishimatsu WIL Joint Venture have been awarded two contracts by the MTR Corporation for construction of the three railway stations and tunnels at the Western District, which form a major part of the West Island Line (WIL) extended from the existing MTR Island Line.

Under a target cost arrangement, the JV will excavate 2.1km of twin tube tunnel between Sai Ying Pun and Kennedy Town by drill and blast, and also construct cavern stations at Sai Ying Pun and Hong Kong University.
