Our Music Theory exams cover the essential building blocks of music, starting with the basics of rhythm and notes at Grades 1 to 5 before moving on to harmony, counterpoint, composition and a broad knowledge of western music at Grades 6 to 8.
We provide a range of assessments for musicians of all ages and at all levels, from the Prep Test and Initial Grade for beginners to advanced-level diplomas in Performance, Teaching and Directing. Assessments are available for instrumentalists and singers, including Singing for Musical Theatre, Jazz and Drum Kit.
There are four room scans to complete: 360°, left to right; floor to ceiling; self scan for accessories; and desk surface scan. Once you’ve started the exam, you can do the questions in any order as well as changing the colour or size of the exam. Don’t worry if you make a mistake or aren’t sure of an answer.
Paper-based exams (Grades 6 to 8) Results are usually available around four weeks after the exam date in the UK and around six weeks after the exam date in all other countries. You can view the result online in your account. We then post a paper mark form to the person who booked the exam (the applicant).
