Benenden is one of the leading boarding schools in Britain. Founded in 1923, we are situated in 250 acres of attractive parkland in Kent, the Garden of England, just an hour from London. There are 560 girls in the School, aged 11-18.
Normal entry is in September at 11+, 12+ or 13+, as a result of the ISEB Common Pre-test or through Benenden’s own Entrance or Scholarship examinations. In addition, there is also a small 14+ and 16+ competitive entry into Year 10 and the Sixth Form.
Location. In many ways, Benenden is the perfect location. We are fortunate to live in 250 acres of beautiful parkland in the Garden of England and are also within easy reach of London, with the capital less than an hour by train from nearby Staplehurst Station. 360-Degree Tour.

At Benenden we believe that boarding should complement, not replace, family life. A girl’s boarding House becomes her home from home and the centre of her personal life. It is where she comes ‘home’ to after the school day and it is where she feels happy, safe and well cared for.
Benenden had become sufficiently permanent by 1086 to have both a name and a church. In 1923, Christine Sheldon CBE, Anne Hindle MBE and Kathleen Bird, three teachers from Wycombe Abbey, announced the foundation of a new public school for girls at Hemsted Park which was named Benenden School.
