香港學校戲劇節的目標是鼓勵學校把戲劇發展成為一項經常性的學校聯課活動，讓學生透過參與戲劇訓練及演出，獲得更豐富的學習經歷，達至均衡及全人的發展。 這項活動的部分經費由九龍樂善堂資助。 戲劇節活動分三個階段，即訓練期、學校演出期和公開演出期。 為協助學校完成學校演出期的戲劇製作，參加的小學及中學會就每一參加隊伍分別獲得現金津貼；獲邀在公開演出期參與演出的隊伍，更可獲得額外現金津貼。 戲劇演出將分三個語言組別進行： 每齣劇的演出時間： 小學組：10-20 分鐘. 中學組：15-30 分鐘. 注意事項. 任何經教育局註冊之日間中、小學均可參加。 每間學校可參加多於一個語言組別。 多間學校可聯名參加。 惟在此情況下，參加之學校在津貼及獎勵方面皆視為一個單位。 學校可自行撰寫劇本、選用或改編現存劇本。
