Basically, "if yes" only works if there's a question that is obviously answerable only with yes or no, and even there it's not necessarily preferred. In contrast, "if so" works even if there's no explicit question, or if it's a bit fuzzier. Examples where "if yes" is dubious or wrong:
1. In my experience, the word "as" would usually describe a time frame of an action, and "so" would give you the consequential event from said action ORan event that occurred at the same time frame of "as"; As given in the example below: As the cities crumbled, so did new ones arise. 2020年7月29日 · The most obvious alternative interpretation would be to take "so" as a pure adverb (=in such a way), but "to" on its own would seem to carry much of the same meaning as "in order to" in this context, so I think the sentence would end up meaning much the same
