The objective of the TAVA Scheme is to provide speedy financial assistance to road traffic accident victims (or to their surviving dependants in cases of death) on a non-means-tested basis, regardless of the element of fault leading to the occurrence of the accident.
The Traffic Accident Victims Assistance Scheme provides financial assistance to those injured in road traffic accidents or for dependants of those killed in a traffic accident. It does not require a means test, and does not take into account any element of fault leading to the occurrence of the accident.
The scheme is administered by the Social Welfare Department and financed by the Traffic Accident Victims Assistance Fund. It aims at providing early financial help to traffic accident victims, or their dependents, regardless of who was at fault in causing the
交通意外傷亡援助計劃可向道路交通意外的受害人，或身故者的受養人提供經濟援助。 此計劃毋須考慮申請人的經濟狀況，亦不會考慮有關交通意外是因誰人的過失而造成，但財物損失並不在援助範圍內。 涉及的意外須屬於《交通意外傷亡者（援助基金）條例》（香港法例 第229章）所指的交通意外，並已向警方報案。 有關申請須在意外發生日期後的六個月內提出，申請人並須在面談中提供相關資料和證明文件。 在這個計劃下，申請人必須謹記，若申請人就該宗交通意外提出索償或訴訟，便必須通知社會福利署署長，以及把所獲得的交通意外傷亡援助金額通知被追討賠償的人士。 如申請人就同一宗意外獲得其他賠償，則須退還獲得的交通意外傷亡援助金。 任何人士故意違反上述規定，均屬干犯刑事罪行，一經定罪，可被判罰款2,000元及監禁六個月。
