The Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited ("HKMAAL") recognises that the skills of a successful mediator are largely unrelated to the type of dispute. A mediator having specialist knowledge of the type of dispute may however facilitate settlement in some cases.
The Centre provides the 40-hour General Mediator Training Course to people from different industries who intend to become professional mediators, and to those who wish to enhance personal abilities.

Candidates seeking to be an accredited mediator of the HKMAAL must have at least 3 years full-time working experienceprior to submitting their application for consideration by the HKMAAL Mediation Accreditation Committee (MAC).
