- In short, Valkyrie Profile is a nonlinear RPG that discourages exploration or even freedom of choice. Even in the most linear of RPGs, you can take time to explore towns, backtrack over previously explored areas, or enter dungeons to power up your party.

This is the Walkthrough for Valkyrie Profile.
Following the initial chapter, "Chapter Zero" as the game will refer to it, the real meat of Valkyrie Profile will get underway. However, Valkyrie Profile tends to be a wide open and somewhat non-linear game, not necessarily in the in-game mechanics but rather the order by which the game can go. It can go in all sorts of various ways, which will affect the ending, the outcome of the great war going on "above," and your experience playing the game. Ultimately, you can play this game many times over with different results each time.
Getting through the game's various dungeons and events isn't that much of a challenge. Hence, we've excluded a traditional "walkthrough" in this guide in lieu of a flowchart, which will succinctly tell you exactly what we did to get through the game as we did, with annotations and explanations along the way. You will definitely be able to go about things in each of the eight chapters in different ways, but this is how we here at IGN Guides got through, almost always with plenty of "periods" to spare! Keep in mind this guide is for the normal difficulty setting; if you're playing on easy or hard, don't expect the information below to be accurate.
How To Read: Reading the flowchart below isn't that difficult, but we thought we'd give you a heads-up on some things that may confuse you. Essentially, the chapters will flow in chronological order from one through eight. Each will have a flowchart of its own, numbered in order using the Roman system. Many entries in the flowchart will be straight-forward enough to understand; for instance, the second entry in the first chapter's flowchart looks like this: II) Spiritually Concentrate. Locate Lassen. [Time Spent: Two Periods (3/24)]
"II" represents the second entry in the flowchart. The bolded "Spiritually Concentrate" represents the basic orders of the round. "Locate Lassen" is what the result of the event, in this case the Spiritual Concentration, brought us in our play-through of the game. Keep in mind there could be a lengthier explanation, especially if you are visiting a town, and especially if you're visiting some sort of dungeon. If this is the case, expect more instructions than on a normal event in the flowchart, as well as lists of enemies and items that can be found in the dungeon. When discussing enemies, three variables will follow the enemy's name, for example (100/200/Fire). In that case, 100 equals the hit points (HP) the enemy has, the 200 equals the experience points (EXP) you get for killing said enemy in battle, and Fire represents the enemy's weakness. If "X" appears where Fire is in the example, it means (as is the case with most enemies), the enemy has no known weakness. Finally, the bracketed area at the end of each entry notes the time spent, in periods, by doing said event, and in parenthesis at the end you can find how many periods have been used so far in the chapter in relation to how many there are to use total.
2000年3月5日 · Valkyrie Profile’s highly innovative gameplay and battle system, as well as its touching and poignant story, made it a non-linear Action RPG that earned rave reviews all across Japan. Upon booting up the game, the player is taken directly to Valkyrie Profile’s title screen.
I LOVE it. It's one of the best and most unique JRPGs I've ever played. The second game improves even further on the gameplay. The first game has multiple endings and getting the best one is hard without a guide, but it's perfectly fine to get the normal ending on the first run.
