2019年1月1日 · A brief history. Virgin Media was actually started in 2006, though within just one year it became the first company to offer home phone, TV, broadband and mobile packages. It has come a long way over the years and as you would expect, it has been one of the most innovative broadband service providers in the country.
Virgin Media began in 2006, following a merger of NTL, Telewest, and another Virgin sub-brand called “Virgin Mobile”. It burst into the marketplace with celebrity-packed advertisements and marketing stunts to showcase its unique offering of TV, home phone, and broadband packages.
The name "Virgin" arose in 1970 when Richard Branson and Nik Powell formed a record shop, first as mail order and in 1971 with a physical store. [ 3 ] They considered themselves virgins in business. [ 4 ] Branson has described the "V" in the logo as an expressive tick, representing the Virgin seal of approval.
2021. The CMA approved the merger on 19 May 2021, and the merger was completed on 1 June 2021. As of the 1st June 2021, Virgin Media and O2 joined forces combining the UK’s largest and most reliable mobile network with a broadband network offering the fastest widely-available broadband speeds.
