查閱了一下資料，發現日本近代歷史上經歷的災難之中，就有極其嚴重的傳染病的事例，當時的報紙也和現在一樣，每天追踪報導，原來這是一種集體記憶。 據記載，最初霍亂流行是在1822年，源自印度的霍亂經中國傳入日本。 第2次流行是在1858年，美國輪船密西西比號停靠長崎時，船員登陸後，霍亂便由長崎傳入九州，最後一直傳播到北海道。 明治維新之後，也就是日本的近代，最初的一次感染病爆發是明治10年（1877年）9月5日，美國製茶公司的兩名工人在橫濱染上了霍亂，隨後在橫濱有42人感染，14人死亡（《讀賣新聞》1877年9月20日報導）。 然而最初霍亂只是在橫濱和鹿兒島流行。 為什麼會在相隔很遠的鹿兒島流行呢？
